Farm Management

We have a wide range of professionals working in more than seven counties in Central and South America, including Production Managers, Environmental Engineers and Food Technologists. They are responsible for the overall day-to-day operations on the farms - the level of responsibility and complexity of each job can be variable according to the size and scope of the operation involved.

Marketing

Established in 1888, Fyffes has a rich and colourful history and can also claim to be the world’s first fruit brand. Introduced in 1929, the Fyffes Blue Label has been applied to finest quality tropical produce for over 80 years. To protect and further develop this brand equity and ensure that our message is communicated to today’s consumer, Fyffes Marketing Department manages a range of media programmes to target the consumer and sales support programmes for our wholesale and retail customers.

Internal Audit

Provides a service to the organisation by undertaking an independent appraisal of the organisation's activities - financial and otherwise. This is performed by evaluating and reporting on the adequacy and effectiveness of the internal controls in place across the various functions and locations. The Internal Audit function operates out of our Dublin offices and reports to the Audit Committee on global operations. Internal Audit conducts audit fieldwork at all of Fyffes locations including farms, ripening centres and offices.

Sales

With sales offices in several countries, Fyffes sales activity is varied and very lively! Staff need a thorough understanding of the market dynamics at work in their market place and the energy to drive sales in an extremely competitive environment. Account Managers work very closely with customers and buyers and increasingly, category management skills are key to success.

Shipping

Fyffes Shipping is responsible for ocean transportation within the group. The department’s primary function is to supply our marketing department with the right volume of the right fruit at the right time at the most competitive cost level. For this purpose we manage our own two shipping lines, control our container fleet, control all port operations in the tropics and in Europe, charter vessels, purchase fuel oil, insure our vessels / cargo and sell and buy cargo space.

Operations

This includes production, procurement, shipping, ripening, distribution and marketing of bananas, pineapples and melons. Fyffes operates from locations in Ireland, UK, Netherlands, Germany, USA, Belize, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Honduras and employs more than 3,600 people.

Finance

Finance roles will vary according to the location. To take one example, our finance professionals working for the UK accounting function manage the centralised sales ledger, including credit control,  and provide purchase ledger services -processing all supplier invoices and making weekly BACS payments. In addition, they produce management information for both UK management and at Group level on a weekly and monthly basis.

Quality Control

Fyffes Quality Control Inspectors carry out detailed checks of the fruit in the field, during the packing process and at the port prior to loading onto the special temperature controlled reefer vessels. Boxes of bananas and pineapples are randomly selected using the Fyffes bar-coding system, which ensures that fruit from all sources and all farms is sampled. Information is uploaded into the Fyffes on-line "live" computer system enabling Fyffes employees all over the world to gain instant access to results as soon as the boxes have been checked. Further Quality Control checks are performed at the ports of arrival as well as in our ripening centres, to ensure our customers receive top quality fruit - in keeping with the Fyffes tradition.

Distribution

Unlike some other types of products, bananas, melons and pineapples cannot be shut away in a cold store until they are needed. Fyffes experienced staff work to match our customers’ requirements to fruit availability and ripening capacity. Multi-sourcing and proven flexibility allow them to react swiftly to spikes in demand caused by retail promotions, for example.

Human Resources

The HR function helps to ensure we recruit and retain the best people for our unique business. We offer training and different opportunites to all staff throughout the business. We aim to offer our employees challenging and fulfilling employment and through the group pension arrangements on offer, also help to ensure our employees have a secure future, post retirement.
