Uniban and Fundauniban
Our Bananas are a source of nourishment for millions of people - both as the world’s favorite tropical fruit and as the foundation for sustainable growth.
By choosing very carefully the growers we work with and then working very closely alongside them, Fyffes aims to develop the farming communities in the fruit growing regions. One of our banana suppliers is Uniban, the largest grower-owned banana company and the largest producer / exporter of Fair Trade Certified bananas in the world.
Through its social foundation - Fundauniban - it contributes to the sustainable development of the communities located in the banana growing regions of Colombia, in order to develop and improve the lives of the people in these communities.
For every box of bananas shipped a fixed amount is invested by Uniban in social and economic projects, including training and education, housing, infrastructure and environmental protection. Since 1987 these projects have helped to empower local people, transform the region and impact more the 13,500 families, 17,800 students and 5,400 children.
