Fyffes Certifications - Organic
Soil Association/ Organic Trust/ SKAL/ BCS
There are strict Regulations governing how organic produce can be grown, imported and processed. Fyffes has certification from a number of different European organisations, allowing us to supply organic produce to retailers throughout the region. Growers from whom Fyffes sources organic produce have met these Standards and are certified as such. In addition, Fyffes operations throughout Europe are also inspected to ensure that there is no risk of cross-contamination with non-organic produce.
The Soil Association is the UK body that inspects and awards organic certification to farms and businesses that meet its organic standards. Certification from the Soil Association entitles Fyffes Group to trade organic bananas and pineapples.
The Organic Trust is approved by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Food in Ireland, by DEFRA in the UK and by the European Commission. Organic Trust certification allows Fyffes to supply organic produce to Ireland.
SKAL is the Dutch equivalent of the Soil Association, being the inspection and certification body for organic production in the Netherlands. SKAL is a member of EOCC, the European Organic Certifiers Council, and certification entitles Fyffes BV to import and trade organic bananas under the SKAL Bio Controle scheme.
BCS ÖKO-GARANTIE GMBH – Fyffes also works with BCS in Germany. BCS is licensed as a private controlling agency to implement the EU Regulation on organic production.
