At Fyffes we take pride in providing bananas, supersweet pineapples and winter season melons of the highest quality. Earlier in our history, our commitment to quality prompted Fyffes to become the first fruit company in the world to apply a label to it’s bananas - as a guarantee that you were buying top quality fruit. And that commitment continues to this day, visible at every stage of the supply cycle.
Quality on the farms
Working with local growers, Fyffes has helped to develop husbandry practices and quality systems of which we are proud. Our Quality Control Specialists carry out detailed checks of the fruit in the field, during the packing process and at the port, prior to loading onto the special temperature controlled reefer vessels.
Quality on board ship
Fyffes fleet of chartered reefer and container vessels are operated by a highly trained crew of engineers. Fruit is checked during loading and throughout the voyage to ensure that it is kept in the best possible condition.
Quality at discharge
Our team of Quality Control Specialists carry out rigorous quality checks in all of our main ports of discharge. Boxes of bananas, pineapples and melons are randomly selected using the Fyffes barcoding system, ensuring that fruit from all sources and all farms is sampled. Information is entered into Fyffes on-line “live” computer system enabling Fyffes employees all over the world to gain instant access to results as soon as the boxes have been checked.
Quality at the ripening and distribution centre
Upon arrival at one of Fyffes Ripening and Distribution Centres, the fruit is checked once again and full traceability allows any problems to be highlighted and tracked to source. This helps us to continuously refine and improve our practices and systems, ensuring a consistent and dependable quality standard.
Our facilities use the very latest equipment and are staffed by some of the most experienced and highly skilled people in the business. Only the best tropical produce is allowed to carry the Fyffes Blue label.
