Patacones (also known as Tostones)
Crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, patacones are a classic Latin-inspired snack. Best paired with a side of creamy guacamole, they’re perfect for nibbling, sharing, or serving alongside grilled dishes.
Ingredients
- 3 green plantains
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Sea salt
- Optional: garlic dip or spicy mayo for serving
Method
- Peel and slice plantains into 2–3 cm thick rounds.
- Heat oil in a frying pan (about 2 cm deep) over medium heat.
- Fry slices 2–3 minutes per side, until light golden. Remove and drain.
- Flatten each slice gently with the bottom of a glass or between parchment.
- Return to hot oil and fry again 1–2 minutes per side, until crisp.
- Sprinkle with sea salt and serve warm.
