Fyffes Publishes Third Human Rights and Environment Due Diligence Report

30th September 2024 |

Fyffes is pleased to announce the release of its 2023 Human Rights Report, highlighting the company’s continued leadership in human rights and environmental due diligence. This year’s report ensures Fyffes is ‘future ready’ to comply with the German Supply Chain Act, the forthcoming European Union Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), and all other global due diligence legislation.

Fyffes has achieved significant progress since it began its Human Rights Impact Assessment (HRIA) in 2019, conducted in line with the UN Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights, establishing a solid foundation for ongoing efforts. Subsequent HRIAs have been carried out at Fyffes farms and with suppliers, complemented by extensive community needs assessments in Latin America, involving 2,200 interviews across 50 communities.

In response to the new German Supply Chain Act, effective January 1, 2023, and the upcoming CSDDD, Fyffes has intensified its efforts to ensure compliance with these regulations. Speaking about the launch of Fyffes third Human Rights and Environment Due Diligence Report, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Caoimhe Buckley stated:

“Our aim with human rights and environmental due diligence is to be ‘future ready’. We continually improve our approach and last year we learned a few key lessons:

  • Stakeholder Centricity: Gathering insights from workers, community members, and rightsholders through independent surveys and offsite interviews.
  • Supporting Suppliers: Maintaining commercial relationships with suppliers in difficulty, except in the most extreme cases, to safeguard workers’ rights.
  • Rising Costs: Shared responsibility across the value chain, as outlined in CSDDD, to support suppliers as they face increasing costs associated with human rights and environmental mitigation.”

Fyffes commitment to meeting these legislative requirements is central to its vision of Shaping Wellbeing for the World. The company invites readers to explore the full report for detailed insights into its compliance efforts and the progress made at Fyffes Human Rights Report.
